Save the date: Sunday, April 5, 2009

What: April Fools 50k & 25k Trail Run
When: 7:30 AM
Where: Kendall Lake Unit of the CVNP. New start this year at Pine Hollow.

See below for link to last year's event, including course maps and results.

Perfect venue for all. Nice mix of surfaces with sections of dirt, rock and grass that climbs and descends the Cuyahoga Valley.

Run as training run: Good timing for April/May marathoners. Also as a tune up for the longer summer ultramarathons. The Fools 50k course is run on parts of miles 65-74 of the Burning River 100. The 25k is a good tune-up for the Mohican 50k on April 19.

This event is scheduled to be a part of the 2009 Western Reserve Trail Running series.

Very cool, indeed!  This could be perfect timing for my "master plan" next year...sorta fills the void.

Looking forward to some more details when they're ready!

Thanks, Lloyd!

Lloyd Thomas the RD of the Fools Run 50K and 25K has asked me to announce he is extending a $10 discount to this run if you are a 2009 NEO Trail member.

This drops the price down to $25 the only caveats are:  Must be a paid in full NEO Trail member for 2009 and must register for the Fool's run before March 10th.   Please write NEO Trail on your Application so Lloyd will know.

http://teampr.info/neotrail.html

This event looks like a lot of fun, please support it by running or volunteering.

Kurt,

I think just a typo on your part, but there is no TeamPR to join.  NEO Trail would be the correct organization.   That being said, welcome to NEO Trail.  I would expect you to be an active member of the club.

On Saturday, March 21st, the day of the Green Jewel 50K Fun Run, the VR Group Run for those not participating in Green Jewel by either running or volunteering, will be a Familiarization Run on the Fools 50K/25K course.

7am: Depart Pine Hollow (race start/finish) and follow Fools 25K course (the 50K does this loop twice)

6am: for more miles, show up with your headlamp

NOTE: most of you are training for a spring marathon and may not run trails.  This course is one that is less "technical" than many of our trail runs on the Buckeye Trail.  If you are only a road runner, you don't need to buy a pair of trail shoes just to run this.  (But of course, Vince won't mind if you do! )  Your road shoes will suffice.  Take this opportunity to see the trails and what they have to offer.  The course is challenging and in true VR Group Run fashion, will have plenty of hills.  Show up and have fun!

Map of course and to Pine Hollow

Entire 2009 VR Group Run Schedule

UPDATE: 142 of 200 spots are taken as of 2/2/09!  Don't delay!

Training runs:

- Sunday, March 15, 8 a.m., start at Pine Hollow

- Saturday, March 21, 7 a.m., start at Pine Hollow

Goal is to tour the trails of the Fools 25k course.

Note: Lake Trail is closed at the dam. The Fools 50k/25k will be re-routed around the east side of Kendall Lake, reconnecting with the Lake Trail continuing around until reaching Truxell Rd. The course rejoins at the Truxell Rd. crossing.

For additional information on the Fools training runs, visit:

I ran the course today and created a picture/video of the course mile by mile.  Follow this link but give it a chance to load.  It's quite large with over 100 pics of the course (but don't worry, you'll only spend 2 seconds on each one) but it turned out really well.  The entire video is just over 4 minutes.

A few hints:
- click on "view HQ video" at the top right...the pictures will not be as fuzzy
- keep your finger on the pause button so you can start/stop it...I had to keep the pics moving quickly but a drawback is that you can't read some of the text that fast...and the text gives you directions on the trail regarding turns, etc.  Otherwise, this video would have been 20 min. long
- On bottom right of video where the "Google Video" button is, click on "Original Size" and "Smooth Video"
Sorry for all the instructions!

Enjoy!

Nick B.

(P.S. I also posted a typed course report on my blog below.)
